Evaluation and Analysis of Ecosystem Services Value in Xiamen Island

Abstract: The paper aims to quantify the value of ecosystem services in Xiamen Island, to provide a scientific basis for the reasonable implementation of urban development plans, maximizing the natural ecosystem services, maintenance of ecological safety island, etc. According to the method proposed by Costanza and Xie Gaodi et al, the author used the volume per unit area to adjust values per unit area of various ecosystem services in Xiamen Island, in order to evaluate the ecosystem services value in Xiamen Island, and put forward some countermeasures and suggestions from the perspective of ecosystem services. The results revealed that the natural ecosystem services value was 35.29×108 yuan/a, the ecosystem service value of one unit area was 25.01×104 yuan/hm2, per capita ecosystem services value was 3991.63 yuan. The value of ecosystem services of forest, wetland and green space system was 4.47×108 yuan/a, 27.93×108 yuan/a and 2.88×108 yuan/a, accounting for 12.67%, 79.16% and 8.17% of the total value, respectively. It was estimated that among the nine ecosystem services, the maximum value of ecosystem services was provided by climate regulation, hydrology adjustment and waste disposal, which in total was 23.76×104 yuan, accounting for 67.34% of the total value. Among the contribution of all ecosystem services value, the order was: waste treatment>climate regulation>hydrology adjustment>provisioning of habitat>provide aesthetic landscape>gas regulation>erosion control>raw materials production>food production. Compared with the ecosystem services value of other islands and areas, the results showed that ecosystem services were associated with the level of urban economic development, generally, the higher the level of urban economic development, the higher the value of ecosystem services, however, the relationship was not proportional.
