Introduction and Identification on High Quality Varieties of Purple Sweet Potato

Abstract: In order to screen good quality and high yield purple sweet potato varieties which were suitable for planting in Longyan, using a completely randomized block design, six purple sweet potato varieties were introduced and tested in 2014 summer compared with ‘Jinshan 57’. The agronomic characters, economic characters, the fresh tuber yield, dry labor, starch yield, quality and the anthocyanin content were screened and evaluated. The results showed that: two varieties had a good performance among six purple sweet potato varieties. The highest fresh tuber yield was ‘Longjinshu 1’ which was 39.11t/hm2. Its dry matter yield was 9.22 t/hm2.Its starch yield was 5.53t/hm2. Its starch rate was 14.15%. Its taste score was 80 points. Its anthocyanin content was 17.66mg/100g. The second fresh tuber yield was ‘Fushu 24’ which was 36.30t/hm2. Its dry matter yield was 10.82t/hm2 which was increased by 3.32% compared with control. Its starch yield was 7.11t/hm2 which was increased by 6.77% compared with control. Its dry matter rate was 29.81%. Its starch rate was 19.57%. Its taste score was 84.7 points. Its anthocyanin content was 11.95mg/100g. ‘Longjinshu 1’ had the highest fresh tuber yield with adequate characteristics of dry matter rate and anthocyanin content. ‘Longjinshu 1’ was suitable for purple sweet potato varieties of processing dried sweet potato products in Longyan. ‘Fushu 24’ had the higher yield, good eating quality as fresh and highest starch yield. It could be recommended as fresh and purple starch processing type varieties popularized in Longyan. ‘Guangshu 8’ would further observation. ‘Funingshu 3’,‘Ningzishu 1’and ‘Xuzishu 2’ were not suitable for planting in Longyan.
