Study on Pollen Viability of Cyclamen hederifolium

Abstract

Abstract: Aiming at intraspecific reproduction and interspecific hybridization, pollen vitality of four different types of C. hederifolium was determined by TTC staining method, meanwhile pollen vitality of H type was determined by I₂-KI staining method and pollen germination method. The results showed that TTC staining method was the best method for pollen vitality determination. The pollen vitality and duration had obvious differences in different types of C. hederifolium. 2-3 days after flowering was the best time to collect pollen, the pollen vitality was still above 40% after flowering 5 days for H type and B type, 7 days for L type, 12 days for X type, and the pollen still could be used for pollination. The study provided important basis for the hybridization pollination of C. hederifolium.
