Abstract: The paper aims to study quality characteristics of new rice lines in the coastal region of Liaoning, and provide references for high quality rice varieties breeding. Taking 30 new Japonica rice lines as experiment materials, the author made comparative evaluation and correlation analysis on quality characteristics of new rice lines. The results were as follows: as to the milling quality of the new rice lines, the brown rice rate and head rice rate reached the second degree of the national good quality standard and the first degree of the national good quality standard, respectively. The variation coefficients of chalky kernel percentage and chalkiness degree were relatively large, which were 50.44% and 52.34%, respectively. Correlation coefficients among some quality characteristics of varieties were significantly positive at 5% and 1% levels, gel consistency and alkali-spreading value had significantly positive correlations with eating value (r=0.660, r=0.586), amylose content had significantly negative correlation with protein eating value (r=-0.849). Accordingly, in the future breeding of high quality rice varieties, more attention should be paid to reduce chalky kernel percentage and chalkiness degree, appropriately reduce amylose content, and take into account the improvement of other characteristics.
