Climate Change and Abnormal Years’ Circulation Characteristics of the Beginning and Ending Dates of Freezing Rain in Guizhou

Abstract: The paper aims to supplement and improve the features of the freezing rain in early (end) days and the height field in Guizhou, by using the observation data and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data of freezing rain in Guizhou from October 1964 to April 2014, this article researched climate characteristics of freezing rain’s beginning date, ending date and freezing rain period, also the features of northern hemisphere’s height anomaly fields at 500 hPa of anomalous years in high correlated seasons. Results showed that: the beginning dates of freezing rain were gradually became later, the periods were became short, and the ending dates did not change significantly. The beginning dates usually appeared between mid November to early December, and the ending dates appeared in the March. In summers of years with abnormal beginning dates of freezing rain, the northern hemisphere’s height anomaly mainly presented the characteristic of trough-ridge strength’s abnormal in mid-high latitude, with changes opposite the intensity of north American trough; in winters of years with abnormal ending dates of freezing rain, height anomaly featured mainly by the position and intensity variability of the polar vortex in high latitude. Freezing rain period showed different teleconnection, as the PJ wave appearing in shorter years, and ANA, NEP and AWE coexisting in longer years. Combined with these characteristics, the beginning & ending date and period of freezing rain could be long-term predicted in practice.
