Abstract: In order to investigate the correlation between body weight, gender and venom yield of wild scorpion Buthus martensi Karsch in Northern Shaanxi, venom yield of scorpion was analyzed. Electrical stimulation method was adopted to extract scorpion venom. The results showed that venom yield ranged from (5.72±1.64) to 16.68±3.55) mm in the female scorpion (300~1400 mg), and from (5.68±1.54) to (16.17±3.36) mm in the male scorpion (300~900 mg). Thus it indicated that scorpion body weight had a significantly positive correlation with venom yield. Moreover, venom yield of male scorpions (500~900 mg) was much more than that of female ones, which indicated that scorpion had gender differences in mobility and food consumption. These results may lay a foundation for developing rich wild scorpion resources in Northern Shaanxi.
