Abstract: In order to study the windbreak effect of the coastal shelterbelts, the author simulated the airflow field of the Metasequoia glyptostroboides forest shelterbelts in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software-FLUENT. The result showed that the wind speed started to decrease gradually at the 5 H location windward of shelterbelts, and the back flow appeared behind the shelterbelt. Then the wind gradually recovered to the initial speed with the decreasing influence of the shelterbelt. Meanwhile, the effective sheltering distance of each shelterbelt was almost 10 H in this simulation. Therefore, it was better to set the distance between two shelterbelts to 15 H.
