Abstract: In order to study the effective way of reduced nitrogen fertilizer, two cultivars of ‘Tongjing 981’ and ‘Nanjing 44’ were used to study the effect of reduced basic and tillering nitrogen fertilizer on yield and growth of rice under the same application amount of earing fertilizer. The results showed that the peak tiller number reduced when the basic and tillering nitrogen fertilizer application amount was reduced, but the reduced amount had no significant effect on the appearing time of the peak tiller number. Chlorophyll content of flag leaf increased after 7 days of heading and the dry matter accumulation decreasd when reduced basic and tillering nitrogen fertilizer applied, but there was no significant effect on other agronomic traits of rice; leaf base angle and open angle increased and leaf drooping degree decreased when the basic nitrogen reduced 50%, but the percentage of earbearing tiller and thousand seed weight increased, which increased the yield of rice.
