Abstract: To protect the soil and prevent serious diseases and insect pests caused by extensive planting of single variety, it is necessary to select new provenance/family forest with abundant gene resources. In this paper, growth and insect resistance to termite of 117 families of 6-year-old Eucalyptus urophylla were studied. The results indicated that there were 41 families that could resist to termite. Finally 8 fast-growing families with resistance to termite were selected as the superior families. The average heritability of individual tree volume of the 117 families was 0.3640, and the genetic gain of the 8 superior families was estimated to be 8.66%.
