Abstract: In order to clarify the role of protective enzymes in the resistance to commonly used insecticides, activities of three protective enzymes from Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) larvae in Ningxiang area were determined. The result showed that activities of the three protective enzymes of the field population were significantly higher than that of the sensitive population in lab. Activities of CAT, SOD and POD of the field population were 1.24, 1.15 and 2.11 times as much as that of the sensitive population, respectively. And activities of SOD and POD of the field population had significant differences compared with that of the sensitive population. The results indicated that the protective enzymes, especially SOD and POD, played important roles in resistance to insecticides in Ningxiang area.
