Abstract: With the increase of greenhouse gases (GHG) concentration, global warming becomes an urgent environmental problem. The authors studied the total amount, spatiotemporal distribution and constituent ratio of agricultural carbon emission in Shanxi Province based on agricultural statistical dataset and statistical yearbook, combined with questionnaire survey and field interview. The results showed that: (1) the total amount of agricultural carbon emission increased year by year from 2005 to 2010, with the an annual growth rate of 5.36%; (2) Yuncheng, Linfen and Jinzhong generated more carbon emission than other cities, and the emission intensity in unit area was higher in Taiyuan, Jinzhong and Changzhi; (3) the agricultural carbon emission showed zonal distribution and the difference of nature and economy had certain effect on it; (4) the open burning of straws accounted for more than 50% of the total carbon emissions, and then was fertilizer application. The results could provide data support and measures for agricultural carbon emission mitigation in Shanxi Province.
