Abstract: The Pearl River Delta is the“south gate”of China’s opening to the outside world. Along with the rapid development of economy, a series of environmental pollution problems have appeared, especially the pollution of cadmium and arsenic in soil. In this paper, the source and pollution status of cadmium and arsenic pollutants in the Pearl River Delta were discussed, and the occurrence and transformation of cadmium and arsenic in rice were analyzed. We expound the effects of cadmium and arsenic on human health. The interaction between soil propertiews, animals, microorganisms, plants and cadmium or arsenic was also explored, aiming to find out the resistance mechanism of plants to cadmium and arsenic in the Pearl River Delta. We summarized the previous management experience on the ollution, hoping that the pollution could be explained thoroughly, and putting forward some countermeasures on the pollution control.
