Abstract: The paper aims to increase the yield of the enzymatic hydrolysate of burdock root waste and to test its fertilizer efficiency. We optimized the complex enzyme composition and the enzymatic hydrolysis conditions by adopting the response surface method, and tested the effects of the enzymatic hydrolysate on the growth and quality of melon through the pot experiments. The results showed that: the optimum composition of the complex enzyme was cellulase 47.3%, neutral protease 1.0%, and alkaline protease 51.7%, the optimum hydrolysis conditions were 49.9℃, pH 6.42, substrate concentration 6.94%, and the ratio of enzyme to substrate 2.536%; when burdock root waste was hydrolyzed under the optimized conditions for 3 h, the yield of the enzymatic hydrolysate was 74.83%, the yield of soluble protein was 11.06%, and the yield of soluble sugar was 37.49%. The enzymatic hydrolysate was rich in organic matter, soluble sugar and amino acids, which could promote the growth of melon and improve its yield and quality. It is technically feasible to hydrolyze burdock root waste with complex enzyme; the enzymatic hydrolysate is of high yield and rich in organic nutrients which can be used as water-soluble organic fertilizer.
