Abstract: The paper aims to study the community structure and species diversity of near the forestline of different altitudes in Shunhuang mountain, Hunan. The author established 5 forestlines, every 300 m, from altitude of 683- 1883 m, and on the basis of sampling investigation, analyzed the species composition, community structure properties and diversity index near the forestline. The results showed that: (1) there were 28 species of plants belonging to 17 families and 19 genera in 5 altitude sampling plots near the forestline; (2) in general, community structure had an increasing trend; (3) with the increase of the altitude, Shannon index, Alatalo index had the“n”curve regulation, Simpson index had the“U”curve regulation and Cody index significantly decreased (P<0.05); Jaccard index of altitude from 1583 m to 1883 m was significantly higher than that of altitude from 683 m to 1283 m (P<0.05).
