Abstract: Plant hormones abscisic acid (ABA) can regulate plant growth and development and response to various biotic and abiotic stresses such as pathogens, drought, high salinity and low temperature. Evolution research indicated that no ABA receptor gene appeared in aquatic plants but emerged in the first landing non-vascular plant group bryophytes. ABA receptor is the upstream signal regulator of ABA pathway, which can recognize ABA ligand and initiate signal transduction. This paper summarizes the recent research progress of ABA signaling pathway, including ABA transport and recognition, ABA receptor structure and function diversity, and the molecular network mechanism of the core signaling in ABA responses. This review could supply potential references for crop breeding on improving yield and quality by modifying the core ABA signaling pathway and ABA transport system.
