Abstract: Salinity is a major environmental stress and is a substantial constraint to crop production. Increased salinization of arable land is expected to have devastating global effects. Sunflower hybrid is provided with high salt tolerance and called as a pioneer crop plant in saline soil. Sunflower hybrid G101 from America is a very good species due to crop production and environmental adaptation and planted in many countries. Gravel culture(Seedling period)and pot(The whole peroid) experiments were studied to determined salt tolerance of sunflower hybrid G101 from America and new hybrid K102, K5 from our country to appraise and compare their salt tolerance. The result showed that oleic sunflower was provided with excellent salt tolerance during seedling emergence. Different concentrations of salt (0.2% ~ 0.6% NaCl) didn’t decreased seedling emergence, only delayed seeding emergence. 0.2% ~ 0.6% NaCl delayed sunflower development and inhibited remarkablely plant height, stem width, fruit disk area and decreased dry weight of seeds. All oleic sunflower hybrids didn’t spend their whole life phases under soil contained 0.6% NaCl and so did K5 under soil contained 0.4% NaCl. It suggests that the salt tolerance of oleic sunflower as a glycophyte is restricted. Sequence of salt tolerance from high to low was: G101>K102>K5.Conclusions from different methods were different, The whole period experiment is still indispensable for appraisal of plant salt tolerance.
