Abstract:Rice blast, caused by the fungal pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae, is one of the most devastating diseases in rice production, which is responsible for tremendous food loss and environmental destruction around the earth. Cloning and utilization of rice blast resistance genes is considered as the most effective and economical strategy to solve this problem. Recent advances on mapping, cloning and molecular structure of rice blast resistance genes were summarized, and application perspectives of these resistance genes in rice breeding was discussed in this review.
