Abstract:

The maize and wheat of Shouyang county in Shanxi province were used as the subjects to compare cultivated suitability of regional grain crops between mechanization and traditional cultivation models. The results showed that: (1) the suitably cultivated regions of maize and wheat under the traditional cultivation model were larger than that of mechanical cultivation model, and the suitably cultivation regions of wheat were always larger than those of maize.under the two cultivation models. (2) The spatial distribution of cultivation suitability of the two crops turned to be polarised, that is to say the regions of the most suitable and permanently unsuitable regions take up the most areas. (3) the most suitably cultivated regions for the two crops intensively locate in the rims and inner gorges of the Loess Plateau in the northern area and mountainous regions with gentle slope. The suggestions were that mechanical cultivation model should be applied to the high or middle-level suitable cultivated regions. Moreover, traditional cultivation model is ought to be adopted to the suitable cultivated areas only for traditional plough.
