Abstract:

To verify the effectiveness of sagittate shape indices in population discrimination, sagittate of Synechogbius ommaturus from Yantai, Qingdao, Tianjin and Dandong were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), discriminant analysis, principal component analysis and cluster analysis methods. The one-way ANOVA showed that there was significant difference in 9 sagittate shape indices between the populations of Yantai and Qingdao, Yantai and Tianjin, Tianjin and Dandong. The results of discriminant analysis revealed that the average discriminant accuracy was 81.3%. In principal component analysis, three principal components were constructed, with their contributory ratio being 50.927%, 24.179%, 12.321%,respectively. The cumulative contribution ratio was 87.427%. Cluster analysis showed the populations from Qingdao and Tianjin was classified as a group, the populations from Yantai and Dandong were classified as a group. The results of 4 statistical methods showed the differences among 4 populations and confirmed that sagittate shape indices could be an effective tool for population discrimination of S. ommaturus. The results provided basic data for the study of fishery resources.
