Abstract:
In order to understand the public knowledge of genetically modified food in Guangxi, in January 2011, five team workers conducted a questionnaire survey for 1256 people in supermarkets, public squares, campuses et al. in 6 main cities of Guangxi. The results showed that, 35.5% of the respondents did not understand genetically modified food, only 24.5% of the respondents to the genetically modified food had certain knowledge. People’s knowledge of genetically modified food was positive correction with the education background, and school education was one of the important ways to understand transgenic food. Most consumers didn’t concern the genetically modified food, and didn’t know any management policy for genetically modified food. Enhancing the public awareness, improving testing techniques and guarantee the safety of genetically modified foods were the future efforts for genetically modified food.
