Abstract: North American Begonia has higher ornamental value than Malus hupehensis. However, high temperature in Wuhan summer is the limiting factor in the application of the North American Begonia. In this study, after one week of 35℃high temperature treatment, resistance physiological indexes changes of the North American Begonia cultivars‘Jinjili’and‘Teli’were tested, comparing with M. hupehensis. Results showed that chlorophyll content and protective enzyme activities were higher in the North American Begonia than that in M. hupehensis, and their soluble protein contents were lower than M. hupehensis. As to MDA, they showed similar results. Overall, North American Begonia showed similar resistance physiological changes compared with local native plants M. hupehensis. Combined with previous morphological study, it was further confirmed that the two North American Begonia varieties could grow naturally in Wuhan.
