Effects of PEG-6000 Drought Stress on Seed Germination of Flax

Abstract: To solve the problem of flax effective survival under drought environment, the author used PEG- 6000 solution as stress treatment for four flaxes to study the physiological and ecological responses and drought resistance in germination of flax seeds. The results showed that the low concentration of drought stress can promoted seed germination speed and rate, and the germination rate of four flax seeds was higher than control in the 5% treatment. With the increase of drought stress, the plant height and moisture content of the four flax varieties decreased but the root length showed no obvious change. Using the membership function value method, four flax varieties in seed germination’s drought resistance was‘Lunxuan 3’>‘Dingya 23’>‘Lunxuan 2’>‘Longya 8’. The correlation analysis showed that germination rate and aboveground water content was negatively correlated, and the root fresh weight and drought resistance had a significantly positive correlation.
