Abstract: For the purpose of optimizing the sowing pattern and row spacing of winter wheat to achieve high and stable yield, a field study was conducted at Gaocheng City in Hebei Province during 2011- 2013. Three treatments were set up: three narrow row spacing followed by one wide row spacing (A), four narrow row spacing followed by one wide row spacing (B) and six narrow row spacing followed by one wide row spacing (C). The average row spacing of treatments A, B and C were 17.6 cm, 15.0 cm and 11.7 cm, respectively. The results from the two years’experiment showed that the yield order of the three treatments was treatment B>treatment C>treatment A. The average yield of the two years under treatment B was 12.2%, greater than that of A, and the yield of treatment C was 9.0% greater than that of A (P<0.05). The results also showed that compared with treatment A, treatment B had the potential to increase winter wheat yield, while compared with treatment C, treatment B had the advantage of high operability in practice. Therefore, it was recommended that the four narrow spacing followed by one wide spacing practice could be used widely in this region.
