Abstract: Aiming at soda- saline soil in Shanxi Datong basin under arid and semiarid climate conditions, Shanxi Lingshi weathered coal was used as modified material, field experiment was conducted, and soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), exchange sodium percentage (ESP) and crop biomass were measured under different application amounts of weathered coal. The results showed that the relative reduction rate of soil pH of 0-10 cm increased with the increase of the application amount of weathered coal, while soil pH below 10 cm had no significant increase. When the application amount of weathered coal was small, EC and ESP had no significant difference compared with that of CK. EC and ESP reduced significantly under the application amount of 60 t/hm2. The relative reduction rate of soil pH of 1-10, 10-20 and 20-40 soil layers was 8.9%, 5.3% and 2.5% respectively under the application amount of 60 t/hm2. EC reduced 0.13 mS/cm in the soil layer of 1-10 cm, and ESP reduced from 26% to 13%. The results showed that in the improvement of soda-saline soil in Shanxi Datong, the best application amount of weathered coal was 60 t/hm2.
