Abstract: In order to analyze the effects of different substrates on cutting propagation of three Lonicera cultivars, river sand, floral foam, peat and treatment with or without rooting powder were applied for cutting contrast tests. The results showed that, different substrates and rooting powder treatments had different effects on the growth and root development. (1)‘Jinhuoyan’and‘Dropmore Scarlet’had high cutting survival rate in river sand (up to 89.6% and 81%), but for cultivar‘Geleimu’, the cutting survival rate in river sand was as low as 14.4%, while it could reach 74% in floral foam. (2) Compared with peat, river sand was more suitable for the root development of the three Lonicera cultivars. (3) With the treatment of rooting powder, the cutting survival rate of the three Lonicera cultivars increased by 16.6%, significantly higher than those in control group and the root quantity increased by 25.4%. (4)‘Jinhuoyan’had higher cutting survival rate and higher root quantity than the other two cultivars in different substrates, while‘Geleimu’had the lowest survival rate. Therefore, ‘Jinhuoyan’was the most suitable cultivar for cutting growth, the cutting survival rate could reach 96.4% in river sand with the treatment of rooting powder.
