Abstract: Eight resistant strains were screened from cadmium and chromium contaminated paddy soil by acclimation of concentration gradient approach. Five strains could endure 16 mmol/L maximum concentration of cadmium (Cd2 ), and four strains could endure 1000 mg/L maximum concentration of chromium (Cr2 ), and X29 strain could endure 16 mmol/L Cd2 and 1000 mg/L Cr2 . The strains were identified from morphological examination and 18S rDNA sequence analysis. Eight filamentous fungi belonged to Metarhizium anisopliae, Phomopsis sp., Aspergillus sp., Trichoderma sp., Fusarium oxysporum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Penicillium sp.. Strain35 and Strain55 belonged to Penicillium sp., and the other six strains belonged to different strains. The results not only provided important strains in cadmium and chromium pollution microbial remediation, but also implied that microorganism had good utilization potentiality in heavy metal degradation and remediation.
