Abstract: Most areas of the world frequently experience severe water deficit due to uncertain and uneven rainfall distribution patterns. The paddy rice as one of main crops (rice, wheat, maize etc.) requires more water than other crops, which is very important especially encountering the drought. The drought disaster of rice was elucidated in Guangxi, China. There is an effective method that developing rice breeding for drought resistance in addition to rational irrigation and Water-Saving Agriculture. The paper shows the mechanisms relevant to rice for tolerance to drought and some work about drought breeding in rice at present.
