Abstract: In order to reveal the landscape pattern evolvement of land use and for rational utilization of land in Zhaoyuan County, the paper used the Landsat TM images in 1992, 2001 and 2010, by using the theory of landscape ecology and the technology of GIS. The landscape pattern development of Zhaoyuan County in the past two decades were explored by many indices. The indices chosen were the structure of landscape, the average area of patches, patch density, landscape contagion, Shannon landscape diversity and evenness index. The results showed that, the area of cultivated land and saline land increased, while grassland, waters and wetland degrade more seriously. The landscape connectivity enhancement, the landscape fragmentation reduced and the complexity of landscape pattern reduced. The results also showed that, the landscape pattern due to the influence of human activities aggravated in Zhaoyuan County.
