Abstract: In order to understand heavy metal pollution status of farmland soil in suburb in Zhengzhou City, the content of heavy metal Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn and Cd of farmland (wheat field, vegetable field and fallow land) soil in the region were detected through field investigation and laboratory analysis in the manuscript. The pollution comprehensive assessments on soil heavy metal were made based on single factor pollution index method, Nemerow integrated factor pollution index method and potential ecological risk index method. The results showed that: the single factor pollution index was less than 1 for each element with the index value of Cd>Zn>Cr>Cu>Pb, which indicated heavy metals contamination didn’t occur. Nemerow integrated factor pollution index was all smaller than 0.7 to wheat field, vegetable field and fallow land, which demonstrated that soil reached the clean and safe degree. According to potential ecological risk index method, a lower ecological risk level was estimated to soil heavy metals by the potential risk coefficient for each element and the potential risk index for each sampling site. As a whole, the comprehensive environment quality of farmland soil in suburb of Zhengzhou was good.
