Abstract: Partial rootzone irrigation (PRI) was a novel irrigation technique which improves the water use efficiency when the production wasn’t decreased. In this article split-root apple plants were used in different growth stages for PRI. The effects of PRI on water status, growth, net photosynthetic rate (Pn), transpiration rate (Tr), stomatal conductance (Gs), leaf water use efficiency (WUE) were studied. The results showed plant’s water status didn’t change when only partial rootzone irrigated, but the growth of shoots and leaves were inhabited. The Pn、Tr、Gs and Gs of leaves decreased when only partial rootzone irrigated. Because Tr decreased more than Pn , the WUE was increased.
