Abstract: This research focused on adaptability and ecological benefits of coastal protective forests in Shanghai. The coastal protective forests growing at Haiwan Forest Park and Jinshan Chemical Industry Park in Shanghai were chosen as the research objects. By building an AHP model of evaluation index system, the suitability of tree species for protective forest establishment and their ecological effect were studied. The results showed that coastal protective forest could decrease soil salinity as well as enhance soil improvement through increasing organic matter content. Moreover with forests growing, the air negative ions also increased and atmosphere temperature and humidity were improved, which means that coastal protective forests have an obvious effect on improving the environment.
