Abstract: The seeds of Cucumis sativus L. were soaked in acid and alkaline solutions, and were treated with different aqueous solutions, freezing, water bath and ultrasonic wave to evaluate the effects on the seed germination. Adopting a double-layer filter paper culture method, seeds were cultured and the germination energy, germination percentage and germination index of the seed were recorded. Then the data were analyzed. The results showed that the seed germination could be improved by soaking in alkaline solution with pH 9, continuous dark treatment, 48 h freezing, 30℃ water bath and 20 min ultrasonic treatment. Among them, the highest germination rate was 89.33% with the treatment of 48 h freezing. The study summarized the most appropriate treatment of the seed of Cucumis sativus L. and had significance on improving effective germination and artificial cultivation of the seed.
