Research Progress of Grape Seed Proanthocyanidin Biological Function and Its Application in Animal Product

Abstract: Proanthocyanidins is a collective name of a class of polyphenolic compounds widely existing in plant kingdom, of which the most abundant content in grape seed. Research shows that grape seed proanthocyanidins (GSP) have many biological activities. This paper reviewed the research progress on biological function of GSP, such as free radical scavenging, anti-oxidation, anti-cancer, on vascular endothelial and blood lipids, and its application in animal production. Put forward the suggestion of using GSP as a new feed additive to improve animal immunity, meat quality and anti-stress effect, and provide reference for further development and utilization of GSP.
