Abstract: In order to demonstrate the feasibility of prevention and control of Cyanophyta by artificial rain enhancement, the effect of artificial rain enhancement operations for prevention and control of Taihu Lake Cyanophyta launched by Jiangsu Meteorology Administration in 2010 summer was analyzed. According to the wind speed and direction in upper atmosphere and some operation information, such as place and time, the affected region by operations and unaffected contrast region were determined. The regional regression analysis of rain enhancement, contrast analysis of temperature decrease and real analysis of variation of the Cyanophyta area were conducted by application of the precipitation and temperature data from meteorological stations within the above two regions, as well as remote sensing data of Cyanophyta area around Taihu Lake. Results showed that after artificial rain enhancement, the increased magnitude of rainfall in Taihu Lake was 11%, reaching 10.9 mm, and the temperature decreased rapidly with 1-2℃, due to increased cold airflow to the ground result from enhancement of the downward flow in cloud. The early growth and medium-term expansion of Taihu Lake Cyanophyta were suppressed by the artificial rain enhancement and temperature decrease.
