Effects of Low Temperature, Weak Light and Salt Stress on Growth and Physiological Characteristics of Pepper Seedling

Abstract: In order to provide references for the varieties choice of sunlight greenhouse, the growth and physiological characteristics of different pepper varieties’ seedling were studied under low temperature, weak light and salt stress conditions in this paper. The seedling physiological indexes of MDA content , SOD activity and seedling growth indexes of height, root length and stem diameter on the different varieties of pepper seedling were determined with the 25℃ of day temperature and 5℃ of night temperature, 8000 lx of light intensity, 8 h of day light cycle and 16 h of night light cycle and pepper varieties seedling of 200 μmol/L NaCl solution and 15 days in pepper seedling of 7 leaf stage on ‘Longjiao 2’, ‘Longjiao 5’ and ‘Hengjiaoxinguanlong’ as test materials. The comprehensive evaluation of pepper varieties resistance was studied by the method of the average number of subordinate function values. The results showed that, compared with that of CK, plant height, root length, stem diameter, SOD enzyme activity of pepper seedling decreased for different degrees. The MDA content increased. The average number of subordinate function value of ‘Longjiao 5’ was the largest, followed by ‘Longjiao2’, and the average number of subordinate function value of ‘Hengjiaoxinguanlong’ was the minimum. The growth and physiological indicators of pepper seedling had different degrees of change under low temperature and weak light and salt stress conditions. ‘Longjiao 5’ and ‘Longjiao 3’ were suitable for long season cultivation in Hexi area greenhouse. ‘Hengjiaoxinguanlong’ was suitable for early spring greenhouse crop cultivation.
