Abstract: Canopy micro-climate monitoring is an inevitable demand of precision agricultural development. Temperatures in an apple tree canopy are key factors that impact the tree growth and fruit quality and quantity, and temperature monitoring strategy is determined by its distribution characteristics in the canopy. Field test was performed to monitor temperatures at a few positions in an apple tree canopy continuously, and the test was conducted repeatedly in a different canopy on a different date for verification. The results showed that around noon when the sun was the most active in time, and at the top and on the edge of a canopy in space the temperature changed the most with time; The temperature extreme values appeared the most in the line along the trunk. It could be concluded that the monitoring frequency around noon and at the top and on the edge of the canopy should be set higher than the other places, and that 2-3 positions in the line along the trunk should be monitored prior to the other positions.
