Abstract: To explore the effects of different irrigation frequencies on Medicago sativa water consumption pattern, yield and water use efficiency, a greenhouse experiment was carried out to study the change of Medicago sativa under five different irrigation frequencies, including 2, 4, 6, 10, 15 days. The results showed that the yield and water use efficiency ofMedicago sativa increased first and then decreased with the increase of irrigation frequency, and the highest value appeared in the 4 days treatment, which was significantly higher than that of 2, 10 and 15 days (P <0.05). Meanwhile, with the increase of irrigation frequency, water consumption dropped at first and rose later. The 15 days treatment had the highest water consumption, significantly higher than 4, 6 and 10 days (P <0.05). On the whole, the 4 days treatment was the optimal treatment according to preliminary inference.
