A correlation research between mangrove growth and meteorological conditions of Zhangjiang estuary in Yunxiao, Fujian province

Abstract: Zhangjiang Estuary national nature reserve, as the unique reserve of mangrove in Fujian province, is very important for eco-environment. For a logical management for mangrove distribution, relationship of mangrove growth and meteorological condition was analyzed by agro-meteorological method. The influence of meteorological factors such as temperature, precipitation, strong wind and sunshine on the growth of mangrove were also studied. The result showed that the abundant rainfall from May to August was advantageous to the growth of mangrove, while the extreme low temperature in the early month of January to March, the extreme high temperature from early June to middle August and the cloudy and drizzly conditions from February to March had an adverse effect. It also showed that both typhoon perpendicularly landing on Yunxiao and typhoon landing on Guangdong that effected Yunxiao, which may reach 11 levels, could cause damage to the growth of mangrove. Therefore, analyses of the relationship between mangrove and meteorological conditions, and special meteorological services can offer scientific suggestions, which can benefit the mangrove management, keep mangrove away from disasters and contribute to eco-environment.
