Abstract: 【OBJECTIVE】A novel superabsorbent of poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide)/expanded vermiculite/sodium humate was synthesized through aqueous solution polymerization among acrylic acid, acrylamide, expanded vermiculite and sodium humate. 【METHOD】The water absorbency in various saline solutions, resweling behaviors, the practical water absorbency in soil and the slow-release behavior of sodium humate of poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide)/expanded vermiculite/sodium humate superabsorbent composite were systematically investigated. 【RESULTS】The poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide)/expanded vermiculite/sodium humate superabsorbent with 30% EVMT and 10% SH gave the water absorbency 426 g/g in distilled water and 45 g/g in 0.9 % NaCl solution; Water absorbency of the superabsorbent decreased with increasing the concentration of the various saline solution, and the water absorbency was in the order PO43->Cl->SO42- and Na+> Ca2+> Fe3+ at the same concentration; 24.6% of water can still be saved in the soil containing 1.0% superabsorbent after 20 days.【CONCLUSION】The incorporation of sodium humate into poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide)/expanded vermiculite polymeric network not only improved the reswelling capacity, but also endowed the slow-release capacity of the superabsorbent.
