Abstract: Pot experiments were conducted in the early and late seasons of 2007 to compare the differences of dry matter production and grain yield in rice under no tillage, conventional tillage and root separating cultivation conditions. Results showed that rice indicated highly significantly lower dry root weight on the side of no tillage in both seasons under root separating cultivation condition. However, under the condition of single tillage pattern, rice indicated lower plant dry weight and dry root weight, greater ratio of dry root weight to dry plant weight and greater grain yield under no tillage condition, and the differences were not significant at most situations. It was inferred that no tillage made an obvious influence on rice root growth, but rice could get more grain yield by the harmony action between root and plant and the increased ratio of dry root weight to dry plant.
