Abstract:

Effects of 16 plant growth substances (PGSs), including auxin, gibberellin (GA), diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate (DA-6), compound sodium nitrophenolate, seaweed fertilizer, cytokinin, abscisic acid, sodium salicylate, paclobutrazol, pyroligneous liquor etc. on the growth and root development of water cultured cucumber seedlings were investigated. Among these PGSs, the promoting effects of DA-6 and GA4+7 were higher than that of control. Seaweed fertilizer could promote the development of leaves and lateral roots but inhibit the elongation of taproots. Sodium naphthalene acetate, sodium salicylate and abscisic acid showed strong inhibition and toxicity to water cultured seedlings. The results obtained above showed some significance for PGSs application in farms.
