Abstract:

Studies on the effects of silicon on leaf water content, peroxidase (POD) activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, catalase (CAT) activity, soluble protein content and soluble sugar content in cucumber plants were conducted in pot experiments. The results showed that silicon increased leaf water content, POD, SOD and CAT activity under adequate water supply, silicon increased content of soluble proteins, POD, SOD and CAT activities, decreased leaf water content under water stress. It indicated that silicon might be involved in physiological metabolism on enhancing drought resistance of cucumber plants.
