Abstract:

In order to clear the effects of the newly discovered male sterile cytoplasm on yield of hybrid generation and provide evidence for the development and utilization. Sixteen combinations were obtained by crossing three types of isonuclear alloplasmic male sterile lines and their relative maintainer lines with four restorer lines, respectively, the effect of male sterile cytoplasm on the yield per plant of F1 hybrids with the same nuclear background was compared by split-plot-experiment of three seasons within two years. The results showed that male sterile cytoplasms were found expressed negative effects of different degrees on single plant yield of F1 hybrids, but a significant level was not retained among the different cytoplasms; the effect of male sterile cytoplasm of Gaozhou wild rice populations on the average yield were superior than those of wild-abortive rice, although inferior to those of Yegong in South China Late Indica Rice, so the male sterile cytoplasm of Gaozhou wild rice populations was a further exploitable new type ones.
