Abstract:

The aim was to screen out and evaluate heat resistance indexes of Paphiopedilum. Taking the Paphiopedilum ‘Maudiae’ and the P. pacific ‘Shamrock’ introduced in Guangzhou as the materials, the two species were put into recovery at 25, 32, and 38 degrees for 5, 10, and 15 days. The changes of physiological indexes such as relative leaf greenness (SPAD), catalase (CAT) activity, peroxidase (POD) activity, malondiadehyde (MDA), soluble protein content, soluble sugar, and proline were measured. The heat tolerance of Paphiopedilum sp. under high temperature stress was studied. Through the comprehensive analysis with apparent observation and membership function method, the results showed that under the same cultivation condition, the heat resistance of P. pacific ‘Shamrock’ was higher than that of P. ‘Maudiae’. According to the main component analysis of the heat-tolerance coefficients of 7 individual physiological indexes, the cumulative contribution rate of SPAD, CAT and POD relative conductivity reached 66.92%. This result could provide a theoretical basis for ex situ introduction and application of the two species in landscaping.
