Effect of Different HCO3- Concentration in Nutrition Solution on the Growth, Fruit Yield and Quality by Aeroponics on Cucumber

Abstract:

The influence of 5 different concentrations of HCO3-[0(CK), 2, 4, 8, 16 m mol/L] in nutrient solution by the areoponics was studied on cucumber growth, fruit yield and quality. The results showed that, compared with the control group, low concentrations of 2 and 4 mmol/L HCO3- improved the cucumber plant height, stem diameter, plant dry matter, photosynthesis, fruit soluble sugar content, nitrate content and yield. Cucumber plant height, stem diameter and dry matter were increased significantly at the concentrations of 2 m mol/L HCO3-. Cucumber production, photosynthesis were improved obviously at the concentrations of 4 m mol/L HCO3-, and it explained that the yield was higher than the control’s by 16.44%. Cucumber crop plant height, stem diameter, dry matter and soluble sugar content were decreased, the soluble protein content, Vc and nitrate content levels were increased at high concentrations of 8 and 16 mmol/L HCO3-. The results indicated that the nutrient solution including low concentrations of HCO3- improved the cucumber growing, and disadvantageous effects were found at high concentrations of HCO3-.
