Abstract: We investigate the effect of fermented Pu-erh tea on the prevention of liver damage in alcoholic fatty liver model rats. Wistar rats were divided into negative control group, positive control group, drug group, low, medium and high dose of the fermented Pu-erh tea groups, the liquid feed was used as rats food. All rats were sacrificed after 60 days’ feeding, serum levels of TG, TC, HDL-C, FFA, AST, ALT, INS and liver tissue levels of INS, FFA were tested. The results showed that compared to the positive control group, the serum levels of TG, TC in low, medium and high does groups of the fermented Pu-erh tea; the serum and liver tissue levels of INS in low, medium and high does groups; the serum and liver tissue levels of FFA in medium and high does groups; the serum levels of AST and ALT in medium and high does groups of the fermented Pu-erh tea were significantly decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The serum levels of HDL-C in high does group of the fermented Pu-erh tea was significantly increased (P<0.05). Fermented Pu-erh tea can effectively prevent the occurrence and development of the alcoholic fatty liver.
