Abstract: Five light quality treatments were obtained by covering white, red, green, yellow and blue plastic films on the canopies above plants and their effects on the morphological and biomass characters of Bergenia emeiensis were researched during two years. The results showed that covering white film was beneficial for increasing plant height, plant width, leaf number, leaf length, leaf width and rhizome diameter while covering blue film was unsuitable for the increase of above characters. The results also showed that covering red, white and yellow films was favourite to increase leaf fresh weight and leaf dry weight while covering blue film would inhibit the increase of leaf fresh weight and leaf dry weight. There were no significant differences in rhizome biomass per plant and biomass per plant among five light quality treatments. From an integrated view of 12 morphological and biomass characters, covering white film was most suitable for the growth and accumulation of dry materials while covering blue film could significantly restrain the growth and accumulation of dry materials in B. emeiensis.
