Relationship Between Total Sugar Content and Physical Property in Full Flavor Flue-cured Tobacco Leaves Grown in Different Areas of Hunan Province

Abstract: To quantify the relationships between total sugar and physical characteristics of flue-cured tobacco, total sugar and physical characteristics of full flavor flue- cured samples grown in different area of Hunan Province were tested, regression analysis were used to analyze the correlation between total sugar and every physical property of flue-cured tobacco. The result showed that the variation of all parameters was in the order of leaf weight=weight per unit area>thickness of leaf>total sugar>leaf width=open tablets degree>stem ratio=equilibrium moisture content>leaf length. Total sugar content had negative correlation with leaf length, leaf weight, thickness of leaf, weight per unit area, had positive correlation with stem ratio,equilibrium moisture content. The relationship could be described by quadratic equation y=-0.0254x2+1.4442x-1.6097 between total sugar content and leaf width, the relationship could be described by quadratic equation y=- 0.0347x2 + 2.1903x- 1.502 between total sugar content and open tablets degree, all above equation were significant at 5% level.
