Abstract: To analyze and evaluate the current situation of the transformation from traditional nomadic to modern animal husbandry for the Herdsmen Settlement Project in Xinjiang, the survey results of the quality and safety of environment, feeds and products were evaluated in the animal farms of Kazak herdsmen settlement in Tacheng and Aletai. The results showed that the contents of heavy metals in the soil and water, phoxim, deltamethrin, fenvalerate, clenbuterol hydrochloride and ractopamine, veterinary drug residues such as avermectin, ivermectin, nitrofuran and tetracycline’s antibiotics in the meat were lower than the limits standards of China. However, a part of pesticides in planted forage and grass were over the national standard limits suggesting some potential risk harmful to the animal production in herdsmen settlement farms. It isnecessary to take early controlling measures. Taken together, the living and animal production in herdsmen settlement farms are in accordance with reqirements regarding the quality and safety for animal production, which is in turn beneficial for improving the nomadic people’s livelihood, grassland ecological environment and the sustainable aniaml huabandry.
