Abstract: In order to research the relationship between growth situation and soil chemical characteristics of ancient hawthorn tree ‘Zezhouhong’, the author analyzed soil chemical characteristics of 42 ancient trees of hundreds years old in Shanxi Jincheng through collecting soil sample, laboratory test and data treatment. The results showed that most soil samples of 42 ancient hawthorn trees were neutral saline and a few were alkaline or acid. There were some differences in soil organic matter and available nutrient content. The normal standards of pH value, salt content, organic matter, available nitrogen and available potassium for growth were pH 6.92-7.29, 0.05%-0.06%, 20.11-28.05 g/kg, 40.81-50.99 mg/kg, and 117.85-147.06 mg/kg, respectively. The standard of available phosphorus was not given because the content did not conform to normal distribution law and could not be graded. This means that the soil condition of the ancient trees needed to be improved urgently.
